Less than 10 percent of employers offer on-site childcare, making this an attractive benefit that results in better recruitment and retention. According to a 2014 study published in the Journal of Managerial Psychology, companies that offer onsite childcare have higher retention rates.
“This is because agencies are communicating to employees that they care about their ability to manage work and family, in that they are willing to provide childcare assistance to parents so that they incur less out-of-pocket expenses,” the study says.
In another study by researchers at Cornell University, employers with childcare services for their employees saw reductions in turnover by up to 60 percent, which benefited their company’s overall performance.
“The average American working parent misses nine days of work per year,” according to the study. “These absences are costly for employers, as is turnover, estimated at one and half times annual salary for an exempt employee and three-quarters of annual wages for hourly workers.”
