The Children’s Garden – Field Office
Nichole has been working with children as long as she can remember. It seemed only natural for her to pursue a degree in teaching. While attending Central Michigan University, she majored in child development, math, and early literacy. Nichole graduated with a B.S. in elementary education with early childhood education and reading specialist endorsements. That stepping stone led her in to the wonderful world of early childhood and brain development. She hopes one day to explore the field of interpersonal neurobiology and the connection of the early childhood classroom.
Before coming to The Garden in 2010, Nichole taught year one students in Perth, Australia, was the co-director and lead pre-K teacher for a Reggio-Emilia inspired program, and developed and implemented a state accredited private kindergarten curriculum for a private school.
Before moving to Portland, she and her husband owned and operated a small child care and preschool program. In 2010, she and her husband packed up the car and drove across the country to the Pacific Northwest and instantly fell in love with the natural beauty of Oregon!
Nicole finds continuing inspiration through the amazing mind of the child. She finds them honest, loving, passionate, and intense, and is fascinated by watching their physical, emotional, intellectual, and creative development! She is drawn to the ever-changing nature of this field as we learn more and more about what children are capable of. She loves being a part of discovering the incredible things children can do if given the room to explore and “be.”
When Nichole is not immersed in the world of early childhood, she enjoys running, hiking, drinking craft beer, cooking and baking, and exploring the world with her husband and daughter.
